My Fundamentals of Visual Literacy Final Project

I just realized that I never posted a link to my final project. The site is pretty self explanatory, so enjoy.

You can find the final project here.

Shape and Value

Personally, I like symmetrical shapes. I love for things to be uniform. From an early age, I was always fascinated with building things; more specifically, designing houses. I understand that these feelings for symmetry greatly hinder my ability to comprehend some of the things that others consider art. Which, if fine with me. Like the old adage says, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Just because I do not define something ‘beautiful’, does not mean that someone else does not. It is the beauty of free will.

Is the spiral 3D?

Follow the lines ... do you see the cube, yet?

I took the above images from here.

The first one always amazes me, as does the second one, but I am specifically talking about the first one. Flat circles on a page, can create this. Well, it is all about the shape and the value, but still …

This one, just plain out shocks me. It is bizarre that our eyes, as powerful as they are, process this 2D graphic as though it is 3D. Funny, in a way, that it is so very powerful, but so easily fooled.

Final Project

I am looking at incorporating color, shape and value into my final project. I am currently thinking something website/web page related, with some sort of interactivity involving JavaScript and/or AJAX. To further the thought, I was specifically thinking about a theme-changing site, with the user having the ability to change colors, fonts, etc. I am also thinking about, for the interactivity, to make something cool using AJAX.

Chapter 16: Review Questions and Webpage

Read Chapters 16.

1) Complete two of the review questions found on pp. 269.

2) Create a webpage that provides information on a specific artist or style listed on pp 264 or 265. This should not be a cut-and-paste job, but a report of your own work, so you will need to cite your sources. It does not need to be lengthy, but it must be original, college level writing. Feel free to tell my why you are drawn to the artist or style, what you do or do not like about it. Tell me if you think this style could be useful in designing a website in the future.

3) Create a webpage about a common household item, but do it in a style from a different historical period or specific artistic style. For example, you could do a page on dog food in the renaissance, or paper towels in the old west. (These are my examples! You think of your own ideas please!)
