And, so it is …

It is finally here, that is. Winter has hit Salina, KS with a snowy fist. As I write this, I find myself inside the cozy atmosphere of Mokas Coffee, watching a light snow decorate the sidewalk, like garland does a mantle.

Most people, of course, would be cursing the situation. Poor driving conditions, shoveling snow and wiping off their cars. These people, of course, completely misunderstand the current situation. Snow is like the hug of a mother or the kiss of a significant other. It was put on this wonderful earth to enjoy, not to regret. Sure it takes some extra time to get around; I guess it gives us an excuse to work on our time management skills. However, as one of my professors stated just today, “without winter, spring is pretty anti-climactic.”

Today, I challenge you. Quit your negative Nancy attitude, and get out and enjoy the fluffy stuff. Build a snowman, take the kids sledding, make a snow angel; whatever you do, enjoy it while you can. Because once spring begins, you will get to enjoy a whole new set of God’s gifts.

Shape and Value

Personally, I like symmetrical shapes. I love for things to be uniform. From an early age, I was always fascinated with building things; more specifically, designing houses. I understand that these feelings for symmetry greatly hinder my ability to comprehend some of the things that others consider art. Which, if fine with me. Like the old adage says, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Just because I do not define something ‘beautiful’, does not mean that someone else does not. It is the beauty of free will.

Is the spiral 3D?

Follow the lines ... do you see the cube, yet?

I took the above images from here.

The first one always amazes me, as does the second one, but I am specifically talking about the first one. Flat circles on a page, can create this. Well, it is all about the shape and the value, but still …

This one, just plain out shocks me. It is bizarre that our eyes, as powerful as they are, process this 2D graphic as though it is 3D. Funny, in a way, that it is so very powerful, but so easily fooled.
